About

Our History

Cornerstone Fellowship was birthed in the spring of 1992 by five families who were desirous for more of the Lord. During this time, Pastors Paul and Cheryl Black experienced a life-transforming encounter with the Holy Spirit that had launched them on the same journey. They had been in full-time pastoral ministry since 1978 and had come to the realization that "there must be more." Their united desire was for church to be more than an organization, believing that he Lord wanted the church to become a compassionate bride, full of love and power to set the captive free.

Over the years, Cornerstone's  leadership has learned through painstaking endeavor to allow Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to become the head of His church. Immersed in the freedom and spontaneity of extended worship and Spirit-led ministry times, the Levitical call of "ministering to the presence of God," and therein helping to restore the arts to His church, became the fellowship's primary mandate.

Accompanying this mandate is the call to develop and mature a Biblically based discipleship and pastoral care ministry that helps people discover their true identity and freedom in Christ as they heal from past wounds and grow in understanding of what it means to live as sons of God.

Today, Cornerstone Fellowship serves as a watering hole to the region, as well as an intercessory prayer watch for the city of Frederick. As worship and intercession play a major role in bringing the presence of God to any region, we're just as excited about our future as we are grateful for our past.
